Hongya Cave
Yuzhong, Chongqing
A cliff of glowing stilted houses that has become Chongqing's most photographed night view.
Hongya Cave is a 60,000-square-meter fantasy of traditional stilted buildings layered up a cliff face beside the Jialing River. By night it glows amber and gold, and the view from the bridge across the river is the money shot.
It is crowded, commercial, and absolutely essential. Go after dark, walk the levels, and take the riverside promenade for the postcard view.
Best for: Chongqing's signature night skyline, best seen after dark.
