Mingshi is the countryside of Chinese cinema - conical karst peaks rising from rice paddies and river bends, famously the setting for the 'Journey to the West' films. It is Yangshuo without the crowds.
Rent a bike and follow the river loop, stopping at the little villages for rice wine. The best light is early morning and the hour before sunset.
Best for: Yangshuo's scenery, without the Yangshuo crowds.
