King's Joy

Dongcheng, Beijing

Michelin 3-StarVegetarianCourtyard

Beijing's Michelin three-star vegetarian temple, tucked into a courtyard off Wudaoying Hutong.

King's Joy is one of only two three-Michelin-star restaurants in Beijing, and the only vegetarian one - a hushed courtyard compound near Yonghe Temple where each course arrives like a small landscape painting: seasonal vegetables, house-made tofu, and wild mushrooms, plated with the precision of a gallery.\n\nThe set menus run deep and slow - three hours, fourteen courses, one beautiful thing after another - and the tea pairings are as serious as the wine list. It is expensive, and it is worth it. Book at least a week ahead and request a table by the courtyard windows. The ginkgo trees glow gold in October.

Best for: The most beautiful vegetarian dinner in China, three Michelin stars deep.
