Dynamic Yunnan

Dynamic Yunnan is the most famous folk performance in China: choreographer Yang Liping's celebration of Yunnan's ethnic minorities, danced by a company recruited from the province's own villages. Drum solos, bronze masks, and the iconic moon dance build into a spectacle that has run for nearly two decades.

The show needs no translation - it is pure rhythm, color, and movement - and the theater's multilingual program notes fill in the rest. It is the one cultural performance in Kunming that even locals will tell you to book, and the finale regularly brings the house down.
