Yi Ke Yin
Wuhua, Kunming
A Yunnan 'seal house' courtyard restaurant serving wild mushrooms, flower dishes, and the province's tribal kitchens.
Yi Ke Yin (One Seal) takes its name from the traditional Yunnan 'seal house' - a courtyard dwelling shaped like an official's seal - and the restaurant occupies a beautiful restored example. The menu is a tour of the province: wild mushroom hotpot in season, fried rose petals, ham from the mountains, and the fermented specialties of Yunnan's minority cuisines.
The courtyard fills with local families and curious visitors alike, and the staff are practiced at guiding first-timers through dishes they have never seen. It is the friendliest introduction in Kunming to the food of the province, flower to fungus.
Best for: Wild mushrooms and rose petals in a classic Yunnan courtyard.
