Ren He Guan
Xuhui, Shanghai
A Michelin-starred Shanghainese dining room that packs in three generations of locals for crab, eel, and red-braised pork.
Ren He Guan proves that Michelin taste and neighborhood energy can coexist: a big, buzzing dining hall on Zhaojiabang Road where three generations of Shanghai families celebrate birthdays over crab, eel, and the signature red-braised pork.
The cooking is classical Shanghainese - sweet, soy-dark, luxurious with seafood - and the room runs at full volume from 11am. The English menu is thorough and the staff are used to guiding foreigners through the classics. It is the rare starred restaurant that feels like a celebration rather than a ceremony.
Best for: Michelin Shanghainese at full family-celebration volume.
