Chang'an Dapaidang
Yanta, Xi'an
Xi'an's most theatrical dining experience - a Tang-dynasty fantasy of noodle acrobatics, imperial snacks, and live opera.
Chang'an Dapaidang (Chang'an Grand Food Hall) is part restaurant, part theme park: waiters in Tang robes, a chef who flings a single noodle into a rope across the room, opera performances between courses, and a menu that spans the whole history of Shaanxi food.
It is unapologetically theatrical and locals love it as much as visitors - queues start an hour before opening. The food is genuinely good, the entertainment is constant, and the whole experience photographs itself. Book ahead or accept a long wait; either way, bring a camera.
Best for: A Tang-dynasty food hall with noodle acrobatics and opera.
