Kashgar Sunday Bazaar
Kashgar, Kashgar
The legendary market of the Silk Road's far end: carpets, knives, spices, and a thousand years of trade.
Every Sunday, Kashgar's bazaar swells into one of Asia's great markets: Uyghur carpets, hand-hammered knives, mountains of spice, and livestock traded the way they have been for a thousand years. It is loud, dusty, and utterly alive.
Go early, bargain with a smile, and eat the nan and kebabs from the stalls - the market's food is half the reason to come.
Best for: A thousand years of Silk Road trade, every Sunday.
