Tagong Grassland
Ganzi, Ganzi
Rolling yak pasture with the holy Yala Snow Mountain on the horizon - the classic Kham landscape.
Tagong is the grassland of every Tibetan travel poster: a rolling sea of pasture, yaks on the move, and the sacred Yala Mountain floating on the horizon. The monastery at its edge spins prayer wheels in the wind.
It is a rest stop and a destination at once - an hour's drive from Kangding, an afternoon of walking and yak-watching. Camping season runs June to September.
Best for: The Tibetan travel poster, in person.
