San Wan Chang Teahouse

Tea HouseHeritageLocal

A 160-year-old teahouse on Guanqian Street where Suzhou's business has quietly been done over pots of Biluochun.

San Wan Chang has poured tea on Guanqian Street since the 1860s, and the tiled, wooden hall still runs on the old rhythms: early-morning regulars, bamboo chairs, and the town's signature Biluochun green tea brewed with the house's own water.

It is less decorated for tourists than Suzhou's fancier tea rooms and more alive for it - the place to sit with locals, watch the street, and understand that a Suzhou teahouse is a social institution, not a performance. The tea is excellent, the price honest, and the atmosphere irreplaceable.

Best for: Suzhou tea and gossip in a 160-year-old hall.
