Zunyi Conference Site
Honghuagang, Zunyi
The red-brick meeting hall where the Long March turned - the most consequential political gathering in modern Chinese history.
In January 1935, inside this modest two-story building, the Chinese Communist Party met at its lowest point and chose the leadership that would carry the Long March to victory - a meeting historians call the turning point of the revolution. The site preserves the meeting room, the bedrooms, and the storyboards of the retreat that followed.
The museum next door is superb, with maps, artifacts, and English signage that traces the 12,500-kilometer march. For travelers fascinated by modern Chinese history - and there are many - this is the pilgrimage site. Combine it with the surrounding revolutionary district for a full day in the city that changed China.
Best for: The meeting that turned the Long March - and modern China.
