Enshi Tusi City
Enshi, Enshi
The reconstructed fortress of Enshi's Tujia chieftains - nine floors of carved timber and ethnic history.
Tusi City recreates the stronghold of the Tujia tusi (chieftains) who ruled these mountains for centuries: a nine-story carved-timber tower, walls, and halls that explain the region's distinct culture.
It is a cultural park more than an ancient site, and all the better for it - the Tujia songs, crafts, and the climb to the tower top make a fine half day.
Best for: Nine stories of Tujia chieftain history.
