Tianya Haijiao translates to 'Sky's Edge, Sea's Corner' - the pair of coastal rocks that have marked the emotional end of China for a thousand years. Couples come to swear eternity here; the rocks are inscribed with calligraphy from the Qing dynasty.
The setting - a wave-washed beach of surreal granite boulders against green hills - is more beautiful than the legend. Go at low tide and walk the boulder field to the far end.
