Peace Hotel Old Jazz Bar
Huangpu, Shanghai
The world's oldest jazz band - average age over 80 - playing swing in a 1929 Art Deco lobby.
The Old Jazz Bar at the Peace Hotel has hosted the same band since 1980: six musicians, average age past eighty, playing Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman in a 1929 Art Deco room above the Bund. Some have played here since the 1940s.
Go after 21:00 when the room is warm. Order a martini, close your eyes, and you are in a Fitzgerald novel.
Best for: Shanghai's greatest living time capsule - a jazz band that outlived the century.
