Guilin Sanhua Liquor
Xiangshan, Guilin
The rice liquor of Guangxi, aged in cave warehouses since 1952 - a taste of the province's rice paddies and limestone hills.
Sanhua ('three flowers') is Guilin's answer to baijiu: a distilled rice liquor named for the three foam rings it forms when poured, aged in the natural limestone caves that keep the city's wine cellars at a constant cool. The brand dates to 1952, and the flagship store sells the full range - from friendly bottles for sipping to aged vintages for collectors.
The tasting room will walk you through the grades, and the cave-aged 'museum' bottles make striking gifts. It is the authentic Guilin souvenir that every food market in the city will also try to sell you - buy it from the source instead.
Best for: The rice liquor of Guangxi, aged in limestone caves.
