Fang Hui Chun Tang
Shangcheng, Hangzhou
A 370-year-old TCM pharmacy on Hefang Street that still grinds herbs, still sees patients, and still feels alive.
Fang Hui Chun Tang was founded in 1649, and its Hefang Street headquarters is the rare heritage pharmacy that is also a working clinic. Patients arrive from across China for the senior physicians, the herb drawers slide open with ceremony, and the scent of medicine hangs over the courtyard.
Foreign visitors come for the experience: watch a diagnosis, try a consultation with an English-speaking attendant, or simply buy the shop's famous ginseng and dried herbs as extraordinary gifts. It is a living museum of Chinese medicine, and the calmest two hours in crowded Hangzhou.
Best for: A 370-year-old TCM pharmacy that still sees patients daily.
