Hu Qing Yu Tang
Shangcheng, Hangzhou
The 1874 TCM hall called 'the Southern Tong Ren Tang' - diagnosis, herbs, and tuina in a Qing courtyard.
Hu Qing Yu Tang was founded in 1874 by a Qing merchant who believed medicine should be honest, and its restored hall still works: doctors read pulses in carved-wood consulting rooms, herbs are weighed on brass scales, and the courtyard smells of a century of remedies.
It is one of China's great TCM addresses and a museum in its own right. Book a tuina session or simply wander - the building alone is worth the trip.
Best for: A living Qing-era TCM hall, museum and clinic in one.
